Trains Can Get Stranded in Snow

When the steam generators’ water tanks ran dry, heat disappeared, too. Outside, the thermometer stood at 22 degrees Fahrenheit. “The cold didn’t take long to get into the cars,” passenger Howard Jones told the New York Times. “There wasn’t much else we could do outside of walk up and down to keep warm.”
